never told a soul, i haven’t done enough would of thought i lier seem bad enough doubt a time beat when i was standing up i was ready, i willing to get out of the time a feeling without a need for a sign to tell anyone my side it was heavenly again why you never see it why you never need it, again but i hear that your searching i hear that your finding another right the other night you go in your merryland every match you fall in, you take it down every dome you look in, another life where there’s nothin goin, you hide alone yes and no one else your better than that, but you dont let out until i realize you did it, again why you even believe it why do you think you need it but i hear that your searchin i hear that your finding another right

about

Perhaps the most interesting work is that which can’t be easily categorised; which seems to drift in on its own breeze, distinct and compelling. Ryan Von Gonten’s new album is certainly one such thing, calmly moving between genres and influences with such ease and consideration you barely even notice the change. Featuring eight wonderfully-detailed songs, Truthlikeness is a remarkably assured debut, equally comparable to the likes of Beach House and Youth Lagoon as it is Neil Young and Cocteau Twins.

Having spent the best part of a decade playing with the likes of The Walkmen’s Peter Matthew Bauer and Lomelda, Ryan Von Gonten finally crafted his own solo album in the wake of a move from Texas to Oakland, California. The album also features contributions from a number of significant players from his home state, including Hannah Read (Lomelda) and Andrew Stevens (Hovvdy, Lomelda).
